For a Category 2 Dental system when performing the verifier piping particulate test NFPA 99 still requires a minimum flow rate of 3.5 SCFM for this test. However, the operational flow test only requires a rate of 1.8 SCFM with a pressure drop of not more than 5 psig. The issue here is that in many Cat 2 dental installations the piping infrastructure will not support a minimum flow rate of 3.5 SCFM for the time it takes to get 35 cu. ft. of gas through the 0.45 micron filter assembly.
Shouldn't the minimum flow rate requirement be changed to match the operational flow rate requirements (change from 3.5 to 1.8)?
