NFPA 99 2018 Piping for Category 3 Dental Air

    There is a local dental equipment supplier in my area telling installers that Pex tube is acceptable for Catagory 3 Dental Air.  I don't see how that could be the case in light of 15.5.5.2.2.  Thoughts?


    15.5.5.2.2 Pipe. Pipe under 15.5.5 shall comply with the

    following:

    (1) ASTM B819, Standard Specification for Seamless Copper Tube

    for Medical Gas Systems, Type L or K.

    (2) ASTM B88, Standard Specification for Seamless Copper Water

    Tube, Type L or K.

    (3) ASTM B280, Standard Specification for Seamless Copper

    Tubing for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Field Service,

    ACR tube (O.D. size).

    Stick with your statement Richard.  You most likely have much more experience than the designer on this topic.  

    100 psi compressed air in plastic pipe sounds like a pipe bomb.
